How to Make Bootable USB installer of macOS

Making the MacOS usb installer for all versions of MacOS is almost similar, here You can easily learn and understand the procedure of making USB installer, in this Topic we are Covering Five Veriosns on MacOS one by one.

Note: You Need a Apple Computer means MAC/Macbook or MacOS installed Virtual Machine or any Hackintosh computer.

How to make USB installer of macOS BigSur

First, you need to download the macOS Bigsur Installer file in your Computer From Apple Appstore from this link: macOSbigsur/download/appstore


STEP 1: Download The macOS.

Click on Get, it will open the Software Update window of ‘System Prefreneces’ now click on download.

After complete the download process the Installer will appear like below, minimize it.

STEP 2: Format the Pendrive using Disk Utility.

Insert a USB storage (Pendrive) minimum Capacity of 16GB, and open the Disk Utility app from Launchpad like shown below.

Launchpad>other>Disk Uitlity

Select the USB drive (Untitled) and Click on Erase, a new window will appear shown below, here select ‘Mac OS Extended (Journaled)’ and hit the Erase button. See the below picture.

Note: Name must be as it is ‘UNTITLED’.

Now you successfully formatted USB drive for making macOS USB installer.


Step 3: Make the macOS USB installer using Terminal Command.

Open Terminal for from launchpad and Paste the below Command in Terminal.

sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Big\ Sur.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled

After Pressing the Command Hit the ENTER button, it will ask for password, type the password(will not display) hit enter, now type Y and hit enter button once again, like show in below picture.

It will start erasing the USB for macOS installer, and automatically rename it to, “Install MacOS Big Sur”. and will start copying files with showing percentages like 0%.. to 100%.. wait for completing the process.

Congragulation! you have successful made a USB installer for macOS Big Sur.


How to make USB installer of macOS Catalina

Download the installer file from the given link: macOS Catalina10.15.7/download/appstore

After Downloading Format USB (check Step 2:)

After formatting the usb drive, open terminal and paste the below command and press Enter, type password hit Enter, type Y press Enter (for more details Check Step 3:)

sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Catalina.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled

How to make USB installer of macOS Mojave

Download the installer file here: macOSmojave 10.14.6/download/appstore

Same as Step 2: format the inser the usb drive and format it with disk utility.

Now open the Terminal and paste the below command and hit enter, type invisible password hit enter and type Y, and once again hit enter, the process will start in terminal. (check step 3🙂

sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Mojave.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled

How to make USB installer of macOS HighSierra

Download macOSHigh sierra using this link :macOSHighSierra/download/appstore/link

Check Step 2: for formatting the USB drive using Disk Utility.

Now Copy, the below command and paste into Terminal hit Enter, and type your invisible password, hit enter, and now type Y and hit enter once again, it will start the process of creating a USB installer, Check step 3: for detail.

sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ High\ Sierra.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled

After that Copy, the below command and paste into Terminal hit Enter, and type your invisible password, hit enter, and now type Y and hit enter once again, it will start the process of creating a USB installer, Check step 3: for detail.
